Ice shoves on Lake Erie at Crystal Beach — just wow.

One of the coolest things to happen in this region in a long time has cost us absolutely nothing. It’s a totally natural wonder, one I’d never seen until this past weekend. If you live here, you should definitely go see it while you can. UPDATE 1: See the bottom of this post for directions on how to get there, and a map! UPDATE 2: Ice caves were evacuated February 17, 2014 due to possible ice fractures. Please see this Erie Media write-up for more … Continue reading

Flashback to March 2013 — Junior & Casey

Our little brown dog is now taller than Casey. I can’t believe how much Junior’s grown since we got him this past February. He’s not even a year old. Love this guy, when I don’t want to wrestle him for being bad.   Looking through their blog today and feeling the pregnant feels.  (Yep, every member of our family has some kind of web presence. Except two of the cats. They’re too busy hiding or stealing pens to blog.)   Share the post “Flashback to March … Continue reading

Bears in a Tree

Here are the bears we saw cooling off in a tree on a very hot day a few weeks ago near Grundy Lake. Of course, the first time I forgot my camera at the cottage before a boat ride was the first time I ever saw a baby bear peeking out of the bushes along the lake. Lesson learned. NEVER. LEAVE. CAMERA.   Share the post “Bears in a Tree” FacebookXShare… Continue reading

Pretty Night for a Drive

Decided to drop my phone in the toilet tonight (I think it still works, but I haven’t checked again). Here’s a picture I took on our drive down the Niagara Parkway, with Miklos’s Samsung Galaxy S4, which is the same phone as mine except black and un-toileted. When I yanked the phone out of the (clean) toilet water, I instinctively tapped the “On” button to see if it worked. The display came up and when I swiped over it, it worked. I probably should not … Continue reading

Look Who I Found in the Cat Bed…

While I was cleaning today, somebody snuck into the DIY cat bed I wrote about a while ago. We kind of love this guy. Now if only he’d stop crying and growling all night when we crate him. He slept uncrated last night on a pillow beside Casey. I’m OK with it, he didn’t run around or anything all night, and he was quiet. I don’t want him to affiliate the crate only with us leaving him, however, because I’m pretty sure he’ll always hate … Continue reading

New Puppy Pictures!

I promised them, and I almost never break a promise made on my blog.  Here they are: Cute pictures of our new puppy, Junior. So, a bit about our new German boxer puppy: We got him at 8 weeks old He came from a litter of 7 He’s got 4 paws He has 1 natural tail (not docked) and 2 natural ears [and we like him that way! In Germany, they don’t dock ’em anymore… I won’t start a debate, because really it’s the internet] … Continue reading

Busy Bee

It’s been a week full of business preparatory.  I can’t help but feel somewhat ready for this now.  It will be nice to actually shoot soon and get back to the part of the whole deal that I love. Tonight the Miklos and I venture off into the Hamilton night to see Mr Joel Plaskett.  We will be serenaded by sweet, sweet tunage and hopefully I will get more than one excellent shot of the band.  I’ve been waiting for this since I missed his … Continue reading

Something’s Happening

First, the obligatory fall-coloured leaf photo: Second, this could be a big day. A big awful day. Shit-show type of stuff. Or, conversely, it could be the best day of my life. Or it could be an average day. Really, I just wanted to post the picture of my leaf. Share the post “Something’s Happening” FacebookXShare… Continue reading
