Ice shoves on Lake Erie at Crystal Beach — just wow.

One of the coolest things to happen in this region in a long time has cost us absolutely nothing. It’s a totally natural wonder, one I’d never seen until this past weekend. If you live here, you should definitely go see it while you can. UPDATE 1: See the bottom of this post for directions on how to get there, and a map! UPDATE 2: Ice caves were evacuated February 17, 2014 due to possible ice fractures. Please see this Erie Media write-up for more … Continue reading

2013 — The Year I Forgot About Flickr

Let’s summarize 2013 in one word: Hectic. For those of you who don’t have a year available to read this post but who have some opinion on Flickr, just skip to the last bolded sub-header. The rest of you, I apologize, for this is more of a journal entry than an entertaining post. Surprisingly, one of the shortest non-introductory blocks of text involves the most stressful aspects of the past year. Between unexpectedly taking on a (very energetic) new puppy, planning a wedding comprised mostly … Continue reading

Flashback to March 2013 — Junior & Casey

Our little brown dog is now taller than Casey. I can’t believe how much Junior’s grown since we got him this past February. He’s not even a year old. Love this guy, when I don’t want to wrestle him for being bad.   Looking through their blog today and feeling the pregnant feels.  (Yep, every member of our family has some kind of web presence. Except two of the cats. They’re too busy hiding or stealing pens to blog.)   Share the post “Flashback to March … Continue reading

Bears in a Tree

Here are the bears we saw cooling off in a tree on a very hot day a few weeks ago near Grundy Lake. Of course, the first time I forgot my camera at the cottage before a boat ride was the first time I ever saw a baby bear peeking out of the bushes along the lake. Lesson learned. NEVER. LEAVE. CAMERA.   Share the post “Bears in a Tree” FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestStumbleUponE-mail

One of those “I’m Back” posts

OK, I’m not back. I never left, but I’m updating after a brief hiatus. It’s hard to get into the swing of things using a desktop computer when you’ve used a laptop for 6 years. Yeah yeah, first world problems. I’m not complaining, just stating. What’s taking up my time lately: Job searching Brainstorming Mind mapping Painting Taking pictures of bears sitting up in trees Editing wedding photos Discovering the ins and outs of eBay, which may lead me to a fresh new blogging prospect. … Continue reading

Pixlr Express: Photo Editing For Your Phone & Camera Alike

You’ve probably taken a picture of yourself with your phone at some point. Likewise, you might have taken a picture where you realized something was superficially wrong in that you weren’t 100% confident on sharing with the universe. Maybe you had a blemish, or a black fly bite on your neck large enough to give the impression that you spent the night at Makeout Creek. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been mentioning Instagram a lot lately. In part, it has to do with my phone. … Continue reading

Much Ado About Instagram Video

Here we go. Instagram now has video. 15 second long video that you can add filters to. Take that, Vine! Admittedly, I’m one of those dummies who doesn’t know what a Vine is yet. I think it’s a short video that you take for no reason but I’m not entirely sure. A few years ago, and I realize this is not the same thing, Flickr added video to try and compete with YouTube. I’m no official spokesperson but I’m going to go ahead and say … Continue reading

Pretty Night for a Drive

Decided to drop my phone in the toilet tonight (I think it still works, but I haven’t checked again). Here’s a picture I took on our drive down the Niagara Parkway, with Miklos’s Samsung Galaxy S4, which is the same phone as mine except black and un-toileted. When I yanked the phone out of the (clean) toilet water, I instinctively tapped the “On” button to see if it worked. The display came up and when I swiped over it, it worked. I probably should not … Continue reading

Spring — It’s Here

I’m excited to see these kinds of things again: There’s something about springtime that’s photogenic compared to winter, at least for me. Maybe it’s the locale. Our part of the world is sludgey at best in the winter, and there are two things I like taking pictures of then: Our dogs in the first snow, and things frozen over. The first snow didn’t fall until around January this year, and even then, I just wasn’t inspired. The rest of our colder months were a vicious … Continue reading
