Stop your dog’s tummy pain with 1 ingredient

Junior

Today I’m going to talk to you about something close to my heart — my best brown dog. Just over a year ago, our boxer, Junior, started having severe tummy issues. He had always had slight stomach problems but they peaked last year with him starving himself and then vomiting bile and specks of blood. It was terrifying. (By contrast, we also have a yellow lab named Casey who once ate a whole box of steel wool pads and managed to survive without much of … Continue reading

Happy Hearts Day!

What a sunshiny day! We haven’t had too many of these so far this year. We spent some time in the yard this morning with the melting snow, and we headed over to check on any new developments that may have arisen on the kid’s “stage”. It’s a sort of gazebo built by the previous lady who lived here. It’s empty now because it’s winter but usually it has a space to sit and eat. It would actually make a nice place to play some … Continue reading

How we treated our dog’s nasodigital hyperkeratosis — wait, what?

hyperkeratosis dog paws, almost feathery in texture

I thought to write this since as an animal-lover, finding a solution to our woof’s problem lifted such a weight off my back. Hopefully it helps someone else’s puppy out too. A few weeks ago, Casey started limping. We first assumed it was a pulled muscle since she does this often up north when she runs around. She had been roughhousing (ruff-housing?) in the snow a lot with Junior. After a few days it hadn’t resolved itself though. I checked her paws quickly and they seemed a bit cracked. … Continue reading

Flashback to March 2013 — Junior & Casey

Our little brown dog is now taller than Casey. I can’t believe how much Junior’s grown since we got him this past February. He’s not even a year old. Love this guy, when I don’t want to wrestle him for being bad.   Looking through their blog today and feeling the pregnant feels.  (Yep, every member of our family has some kind of web presence. Except two of the cats. They’re too busy hiding or stealing pens to blog.)   Share the post “Flashback to March … Continue reading

Animal Update

It was Rico’s estimated birthday a few short days ago. That’s right. My cat is 9 years old. This cat has been with me through thick and thin, so I decided to make a toy out of a TP roll for him, which Junior later ate. Mixi had to go to the vet last week after we began to notice her itching and licking her fur like crazy and developing scabs which turned into sores. A few shots later and she’s doing well, though she … Continue reading

Classical Music and Dogs: A Halfway Surprising Experiment

Classical music time is coma time for the dogs. It would be for me too, except that puppy resting means I can get things done. I am also about 2% more peaceful for listening to it, inclined to spin like a ballerina as I tidy the neighbour’s wayward bags of dog poo from our lawn, if I’m not keeping an eye on myself. Don’t credit me for this magical discovery, however. The suggestion to subject them (and myself) to classical was made to me by … Continue reading

Pumpkin for Dog Tummy Rumbling

We’ve been walking Junior and Casey together for a week or so now that he got his second shots. Junior’s loud tummy growling problem began just after we saw the vet so when we walked the dogs to the pet food store, we mentioned it to the girl working. She mentioned feeding him a bit of pumpkin with his dinner as it’s supposed to settle an upset puppy stomach. I had read that a few times as well, so we decided to try it. The stuff … Continue reading

Dog Tummy Rumbling

This morning is a tired one. Junior was trying to climb up the side of the bed, which was strange and somewhat irritating, until Miklos discovered what might have been the problem. The puppy’s tummy was growling like mad, loud enough we could hear it from across a room. We think it scared him a little. I suffer the same affliction sometimes when I’m not even hungry, though it’s easier for me to climb into our tall bed. Ignoring the scarier answers found on Google (I know), … Continue reading

Look Who I Found in the Cat Bed…

While I was cleaning today, somebody snuck into the DIY cat bed I wrote about a while ago. We kind of love this guy. Now if only he’d stop crying and growling all night when we crate him. He slept uncrated last night on a pillow beside Casey. I’m OK with it, he didn’t run around or anything all night, and he was quiet. I don’t want him to affiliate the crate only with us leaving him, however, because I’m pretty sure he’ll always hate … Continue reading
