Best solar lights for Christmas, or any time!

Solar powered LED Christmas lights

Hi there! Hope your summer’s been beautiful. The end of this August means it’s already been over two years since we moved to the place we’re in now! We went from suburban life to country living, which was something of a learning curve. Well water? Coyotes hunting across the street in the bush at night? Spiders the size of your big toe? One unique challenge we had was how we would string up the Christmas lights. There is no power outlet outside our house except … Continue reading

Happy Birthday, Santa!

Hope everyone had an excellent Christmas.  Here are a few of the highlights from mine. Yep, it was all street lights, nieces and woofs (or they were the most willing subjects anyway).  I’m okay with that!  Got a link to your holiday pictures?  I’d love to see them! 5 Christmas Gifts I Wish My Dad Wanted

Ho ho ho… goodie.  Christmas is already back.  If you’re stuck for gift ideas for your dad, or any other man in your life for that matter, you’re not alone.  Men tend to be a challenge for holiday gift-giving because they seem to either have everything, or, in the case of my pops, they never give you ideas about anything they’d like. I decided to search a few “Gifts for Him” pages to get an idea of what I can gift ol’ Dad this Christmas. … Continue reading

Christmas is OVER!

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!  The past two days have been wonderfully packed with family, food, Christmas music and my gent,  which kind of ruled.  And it’s nice to enjoy a full day off once a year without a trip to Walmart. Now everything can slow back down and sweet reality can set on in once more.  A few more days and 2011’s over.  I found myself so ahead of the game this year with everything (excluding wedding planning, yeek).  Did you? … Continue reading

Twas the Night Before the Night Before Christmas (Today)

Yesterday I met one of my many idols to whom I have nothing interesting to say.  If you live in Canada, claim to love music, and don’t know who Alan Cross is, for shame.  Anyway, him.  Three of us got up 3 hours before the crack of dawn and headed to the Feathery Pub in St Catharines (where I think I got bedbugs from a booth seat) to listen to Alan Cross read his version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, which I missed almost … Continue reading

Still Plenty of Time

I’m tired of ugly cheesy Christmas store-bought decorations, so I’ve decided to try my hand at making my own ugly cheesy ones at home.  Searching the WWW for inspiration, I have found two incredibly neat sites with posts full of great ideas: 20 in 20 – 20 DIY decorations in 20 days. Hmm.  Do-able. Holiday Decoration – A bunch of ideas, all of which I want to try. So cool.  I’m ready.  This makes Christmas a hell of a lot more fun for an adult with no … Continue reading

Christmas Woof

I guess it has to do with my esteemed way of making a living, but I seem to be a bit Christmas-focused far too early this year.  It’s not just me.  So does this thing: By the way, this dog is a maniac.   Share the post “Christmas Woof” FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestStumbleUponE-mail

This Christmas, BE NICE.

I shouldn’t have to hate Christmas. Not one day after writing about how I would take the Christmas season in stride, I was reminded that my place of work gives us absolutely no hours to fairly balance workload and accommodate the making of sales that are so important to their world.  (We’ve only made $3000 so far this week?  Goodness, me!  I am so selfish, making a teensy fraction of that!)  There should be some kind of mandatory free access to mental health help that … Continue reading

Bring on Novembrrr… 3 Rs.

It’s almost the end of another year.  The next two months will be sheer hell by the usual standards, but I’m willing to try and make the best of it. (PLZLETMEGETABETTERJOBBYNEXTCHRISTMASSEASON.) Two months seems like a long time, but it’s not.  I remember the end of August like it was yesterday.  Casey got spayed and then she peed and barfed all the live-long night.  See?  Easy recollection.  Two months from now is almost here. Before New Year’s Eve, however, there are four (4) birthdays in … Continue reading

Excerpts

We don’t talk to Scoobi about Santa Claus. Not since the heart attack. Something about having sat on Santa’s lap moments before his vital organs began to expand and contract in violent spasms causing him to collapse in a sweaty heap on the cottony fake snow surrounding his chair that makes the whole Christmas season eternally unsettling to a child.
