Make a sturdy beach bag for cheap!

Make a small IKEA rug into a beach bag

Hi again. Not sure about where you are but here in Niagara, it’s been hot! I know that because my makeup is sliding off my face and our young son is a grump without a popsicle in hand. This week may have been the first time we’ve gone to the beach together and done more than dip our feet in the water. The kid really enjoyed ‘swimming’ (AKA lying on his tummy and splashing like mad) and I got to cool off too. Win! AND … Continue reading

DIY: Add some colour with dip-dyed ombré plant hangers!

ombre plant hangers

Oh hey! How are you? I hope you’re well. The weather is warmer, we’re nearing the end of tree pollen season here in Niagara, and it’s nice to enjoy warm fresh air without the sneezing again. Today I wanted to share with you a colourful little process I used recently to punch up my plant hangers. Our spider plants in particular have been sprouting babies like wildfire, if wildfire could sprout babies. If you’ve never had them, you should know spider plants are wonderfully hardy, cat-friendly options. And … Continue reading

Happy Hearts Day!

What a sunshiny day! We haven’t had too many of these so far this year. We spent some time in the yard this morning with the melting snow, and we headed over to check on any new developments that may have arisen on the kid’s “stage”. It’s a sort of gazebo built by the previous lady who lived here. It’s empty now because it’s winter but usually it has a space to sit and eat. It would actually make a nice place to play some … Continue reading

What I learned when I took a leap — and why you should too

hot pink planner with gold writing

Happy New Year, everyone! Fresh year, fresh start — or something. You can always remain exactly the same if you want, too. I won’t make this post about resolutions because chances are you’ve talked/read a lot about those lately. What I do want to touch upon — after a year that many considered to be awfully bleak — is inspiration. A new year is a good time, I think, to look at your life and focus on what gets your gears turning and your heart pumping (healthily). January … Continue reading

I’ve been so quiet

Sorry to have disappeared lately. Between running my shop and running our lives and taking care to make sure our dog eats (he has chronic pancreatitis) and whatever other things pop up and getting little sleep (life in your 30s, basically), it’s been near impossible to take a moment here and there to write! My plan is to make a big ol’ bloggy comeback in the New Year after my shop settles back down after the Christmas rush. Anyway, nothing much to report. Just wanted to say hi, reassure … Continue reading

Easy Totem Poles Cotton & Flannel Crib Sized Quilt

Totem poles and buffalo plaid cotton and flannel quilt

Scrolling through Instagram lately, I’ve become fascinated with the world of quilting. It’s such a creative and almost always one-of-a-kind sort of thing — for someone who sews and who has a multitude of scraps, the things others are able to do (with much more experience than I have) are wonderfully inspiring. I’m starting out small, so I found this great tutorial for a flannel quilt from Cloud9 Fabrics and decided to run with it, using cotton front pieces for the quilt topper and a flannel plaid backing/accent. … Continue reading

Throwback Monday: DIY Pallet Headboard

DIY headboard progress

Wading through some older entries (because having a toddler puts a bit of a damper on the upcycling time) and having fun reliving the olden days that I hope to soon revisit. Wanted to point out that our DIY pallet headboard has held up wonderfully! The only thing I’d do differently is sand the very top of it completely smooth before staining to make it easier to dust. And maybe I’d seal it, if I could find one that wasn’t too glossy. It’s a great time of year … Continue reading

Wood-look phone cases for your Samsung Galaxy or iPhone

Forest art case for Samsung Galaxy S6

Just a quick post to show off my favourite phone case yet. It’s from RealDesignRocks, an Etsy seller who makes it difficult to decide on just one design to wrap around your phone, be it a Samsung Galaxy or an iPhone. (I wrote this because I sincerely love this case & many, many of her other ones & I appreciate a good value. I am not being paid to write this or given free merchandise — though that’d be cool with me! Haha.) The cut-outs … Continue reading

Why we love the Dream On Me Pack N Play Mattress

Hi again! Sometimes I like something enough that I feel sharing a few tidbits about my experience with it will benefit people in similar situations. This is one of those times. Here’s my review on this pack n play mattress that seemingly has magical powers over our nap-resisting son. [This post contains affiliate links.]    When John started sleeping over at his grandparents’ place, they got a Graco Pack N Play. We had one already that we’d loved since he was first born but weren’t ready to part … Continue reading

Turning 2!

Birthday cake time!

Happy birthday, Coolguy! This kid is our light. He’s made everything better and given us 1) a whole new perspective on life; 2) the realization that sleep deprivation is a powerful torture mechanism; and 3) filled our (previously grey & withered) hearts with love. Anyway I’ll hush up now. I just like this guy a bunch and can’t believe it’s been two years since my bladder worked properly. Love you, kid!
